Accurate Air Content Measurement for Packaged Beverages

The Haffmans IAM is a reliable instrument used to determine the air content in the headspace and the total air content in carbonated beverages. It works in combination with the Inpack CO₂ Calculator or Inpack CO₂ Meter, using a proven method based on CO₂ absorption by caustic.

Benefits

  • Precise quality control: Accurately measures headspace and total air content.
  • Maintenance-free: Simple, durable design with no moving parts.
  • Cost-effective: Reduces the risk of oxygen-related flavor degradation and shelf-life issues.
  • Flexible options: Available in two models for different beverage types.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

The container is depressurized, and the released gas is fed into the IAM. CO₂ is absorbed by caustic, and the remaining air is collected in a measuring burette. The air volume is then read directly in milliliters.

The device is available in two executions:

  • Type IAM-20 has a measuring range of 0-20 ml, with higher accuracy in the low range, and is typically used for carbonated beverages with low air content, such as beer.
  • Type IAM-36 measures the range of 0-36 ml and is typically used for carbonated beverages with a higher air content, such as soft drinks.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

  • Laboratory: Use in combination with Pentair Haffmans’ Inpack 2000 CO₂ Calculator or Meter.
  • Breweries and soft drink production.
